Art and Textiles Department

Art and Design is taught with Textiles throughout Key Stage 3. Pupils receive one Art lesson every week and one Textiles lesson every other week. Richard Aydon (Head of Faculty of Arts), Emma Hawkins and Claire Haley teach art across the key stage with Emma Hawkins also teaching Textiles.

An Art and Textiles course is taught across the key stage building and linking skills that become increasingly challenging as pupils progress each year. The Art and Textiles course includes painting and drawing, mixed media, varied forms of printmaking, 3D ceramics and a wide range of textile techniques. Art history or multi-cultural studies are an integral part of every project.

Art is a very popular and successful option at G.C.S.E. level. Pupils continue to work in a wide variety of media. Sculpture, photography, screen printing and engraved printmaking are among the techniques taught during Key Stage 4. The G.C.S.E course ensures that pupils are equipped with the skills necessary to develop highly original artwork, as this is required to achieve the highest grades.

A wide variety of artwork is always on display around the school! Here is a small selection of work by pupils from across the age range. More example work can be seen in our image gallery.
