Geography
At St George’s, our vision, “Wonderfully made, inspired to shape the world,” is grounded in Psalm 139:14: "I will praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made." This belief in the uniqueness of every individual informs our commitment to nurturing the talents and aspirations of each child.
Our Geography curriculum, rooted in this vision, aims to inspire children to become curious and explorative thinkers with a broad knowledge of the world—encouraging them to think like geographers. We empower our pupils to develop the confidence to question and observe places, measure and record essential data in various ways, and analyse and present their findings.
Through our comprehensive scheme of work 'Kapow', we build an awareness of how Geography influences our lives at multiple scales and over time. We aspire for our pupils to become resourceful, active citizens equipped with the skills necessary to contribute positively to and improve the world around them.
Our Geography curriculum emphasises:
- A strong focus on developing both geographical skills and knowledge.
- Critical thinking, enabling pupils to ask perceptive questions and analyze evidence effectively.
- The development of fieldwork skills across each year group.
- A deep interest and understanding of their locality and how it differs from other areas of the world.
- A growing comprehension of geographical concepts, terms, and vocabulary
