At St. George’s, in line with our vision of Wonderfully made, inspired to shape the world, we aim to nurture the unique talents of each child, empowering them to make a positive impact through the arts. Music plays a vital role in this journey, helping our students discover their God-given creativity and grow in confidence and self-expression.
To support high-quality music teaching, we have adopted the Charanga scheme, which aligns seamlessly with the national curriculum. Charanga ensures that learners revisit key elements of music such as pulse, pitch, rhythm, and voice, building on their previous knowledge and skills. The scheme is designed around four key areas: Listening and Appraising, Musical Activities, Creating and Exploring, and Singing and Performing, allowing children to engage deeply with each aspect of music.
In keeping with our vision to celebrate diversity and belonging, children are exposed to a wide variety of music styles and genres during collective worship, including a Genre of the Month for our collective worship music. This, along with weekly singing worship, helps develop a deep appreciation for music from different cultures and traditions, broadening horizons and helping children connect with the world around them.
