Outcome: Expected Standard in Every Area
We are delighted to share the outcome of our recent Ofsted inspection. St George’s CE First School has been judged as meeting the Expected Standard in every area inspected, with safeguarding standards fully met.
Whilst ‘Expected Standard’ may not sound too exciting, it is important to understand that this is under Ofsted’s new and more demanding inspection framework. Under the previous framework, this outcome would have been recognised as a strong Good judgement. We are therefore incredibly proud of what this report says about our school community.
What Ofsted Said About Us

These comments reflect the school we strive to be every day: a place where children feel safe, valued, included and proud to belong.
Key Strengths Identified by Ofsted
A Culture of Kindness, Respect and Belonging
Inspectors recognised the positive culture that exists throughout the school, noting that pupils are kind, respectful and tolerant of one another. They found that behaviour across the school is cooperative and that pupils live out the values they are taught through their everyday interactions.
Inclusion for All
Ofsted highlighted the significant work undertaken to develop an inclusive culture at St George’s. Staff identify pupils’ needs quickly and provide effective support so that all children, including those with SEND, disadvantaged pupils and other vulnerable learners, can thrive and achieve well.
Strong Early Reading and Phonics
Early reading was recognised as a particular strength. Inspectors found that phonics is taught systematically and effectively, helping children develop secure reading skills and ensuring those who fall behind catch up quickly.
Personal Development and Wellbeing
The report highlights our school’s strong commitment to supporting pupils and families. Leaders provide a rich programme of personal development alongside a wide range of opportunities, clubs, trips and experiences that help children develop confidence, resilience and social skills.
Safeguarding
Ofsted confirmed that safeguarding standards are fully met. Inspectors recognised the open culture of safeguarding across the school, where safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility and where pupils feel safe and well supported.
Our Next Steps
Ofsted identified two areas for the school to continue developing, which are already part of our ongoing school improvement work:
Further improving attendance and reducing persistent absence.
Continuing to strengthen curriculum delivery so pupils develop and retain even more detailed knowledge over time.
